Low Vision Rehabilitation: A Guide for Occupational Therapists

Suggested  Audience: This seminar is designed for occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants who work with patients with visually impairment.
 
Course  Description: This seminar is designed to help therapists develop a comprehensive understanding of visual impairment, its impact on activities of daily living and appropriate occupational therapy interventions. The anatomy and physiology of the visual system will be reviewed including common pathologies and their functional implications. The low vision examination will be described and the optics of low vision aids will be explained.

Occupational therapy assessment and management of patients with low vision will be discussed at length. A variety of treatment options, both optical and non-optical will be presented. Details will be provided about establishing a low vision rehabilitation service for inpatients and outpatients including, marketing, billing, and documentation.
 
Learning  Objectives: �Understand the complexity of the visual system
�Describe how various low vision deficits affect performance in play, learning, work and sports
�Understand the various treatment approaches available for low vision disorders
�Plan and implement compensatory strategies to manage vision problems interfering with therapy
